Empowering Educators in Meghalaya: Training at RKM Ashrama, Sohra

09/05/2025

The Education for All initiative in Meghalaya has been instrumental in advancing child-centric and inclusive education. In 2025, over 400 teachers from Ramakrishna Mission schools—spread across urban, rural, and remote hilly regions—were trained, positively impacting 4,898 students. The programs, conducted in Sohra (Cherrapunjee) and through online sessions, emphasized activity-based pedagogy, foundational literacy and numeracy, digital integration, and holistic assessment practices. Teachers engaged in collaborative workshops, role plays, and curriculum design, gaining confidence in implementing Holistic Progress Cards as envisioned in NEP 2020. With innovative resources like Sparkle and Journey Through Numbers, educators were empowered to move beyond rote learning. Despite challenges of terrain and infrastructure, the training strengthened peer networks and reinforced the mission of delivering joyful, competency-driven learning across Meghalaya

Training at Ladakh

June 15, 2023

Continuing this mission, our next training program is planned in Ladakh extending our outreach to educators in this unique region.

Nutri-ed: Fighting Early Morning Hunger in Children

Nanritam’s Nutri-ed initiative addresses the critical issue of children attending school on empty stomachs until the mid-day meal. To bridge this gap, nutritious laddoos made of moong dal, rice crispies, gram, milk powder, and ghee are freshly prepared and distributed daily across learning centres. Today, 1,400 students from marginalized and tribal communities benefit from this program, ensuring their first wholesome meal before noon. Beyond nutrition, Nutri-ed works alongside the Education for All (EFA) outreach, impacting thousands with health, education, and dignity. By combining nourishment with learning, Nanritam strengthens the vision of building a healthier and more equitable future for every child

EFA HOPE: Education and Nutrition for the Sabar Community

The EFA HOPE Project was established to bring learning and nourishment to children from the remote Sabar community who live far from the main villages. Under this initiative, three dedicated centres now serve as safe spaces where education and nutrition come together. Every day, 300 children receive not only quality education but also vital nutritional support, ensuring healthy bodies and active minds. The programme is strengthened by 9 trained teachers and 8 committed volunteers, who undergo regular training sessions to make classes interactive, joyful, and effective HOPE stands as a beacon of opportunity—empowering children, uplifting families, and weaving dreams of a brighter tomorrow.

LAB ON WHEELS

The Makers Lab on Wheels, launched in February 2025 by Infosys Foundation in collaboration with Nanritam’s Education For All (EFA), is transforming science learning in underserved schools of Purulia, West Bengal. These schools, often without proper laboratories, modern technology, or adequate science teachers, now experience a mobile STEM hub that delivers hands-on learning to their doorsteps. Reaching 18 schools and over 2,800 students, including nearly 1,000 girls, the lab uses microcontrollers, sensors, and IoT kits to make coding, electronics, and automation accessible. Beyond academics, it sparks curiosity and imagination in deprived children, empowering them to question, innovate, and connect science with real-life challenges. By bridging the digital divide, it inspires a generation of young rural innovators.

EFA Prerna Group

EFA Prerna Group, named by Nanritam, has been associated with us since 2021 as a network of 24 schools and centres in rural Bengal, mostly in the districts of Purulia and Bankura. Many of these are deprived centres, serving children from underserved communities who face challenging circumstances in accessing education. Yet, their eagerness and determination to learn every day is truly inspiring. These centres are run by dedicated teachers (around 180 in total) who, with passion and care, go beyond the classroom to nurture every child’s development. Through the EFA program, we work to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy while also building 21st-century skills as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Despite hardships, the collaborative efforts of our teachers make learning engaging, meaningful, and holistic. With over 5,000 students already benefiting from our EFA program, the Prerna Group stands as a symbol of inspiration, this was the first group we started our journey with so we have given it the name Prerna. Our EFA program is a hope, carrying forward our mission to reach every child with quality education because we firmly believe education is the right of all.
