Hear from our network of educators
This short clip brings us the voices of the educators who have been through our Teacher’s Training program, and are implementing in their learning centers. So heartening to hear their feedback!
Dissemination of quality eye care and education to remote quarters of West Bengal has always been one of the primary missions of Nanritam, a Purulia based NGO. Nanritam had begun its journey in 2004 from a mud hut eye clinic located in the barren tract of Para, Purulia. The hospital has now matured into a technologically advanced 100 bedded Lokeswarananda Eye Foundation Hospital, serving patients across Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore, Burdwan, Birbhum and Jharkhand.
Nanritam’s next venture was the Filix School of Education (established 2014) which aimed at providing global standard education to the local children of Purulia. Affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Filix School of Education has classes from Kindergarten to Grade 10. The school has around 500 students some of whom stay in the school’s residential facility.
It was the pandemic years 2020-22 that witnessed Nanritam in yet another and new avatar:
Intense relief work to disadvantaged areas of West Bengal revealed a bitter truth of the area: neglected schooling for hundreds of young primary school children across various districts. Addressing the historical learning gaps that have plagued remote rural communities for ages, propelled Nanritam to initiate a foundational literacy and numeracy solution for the 3-8 age group. The timing of the program initiation was further stimulated by the acute challenge of Covid school closures, that had further deepened the historical gap. Leveraging their Filix School’s unique activity based playful pedagogy, well-researched body of knowledge and high quality teachers pool, they launched a program to propogate the methodology and teaching tools, by training teachers of these remote rural schools, providing them with the Teaching Learning Materials (TLMs) and following up with them regularly by continued mentoring and Teachers’ workshops. And thus began, the Education for All, the education outreach project of Nanritam, in November, 2021.
